V is for victory

This past Sunday I was really, really trying to pay attention during church.  It wasn't our senior pastor ... so it didn't really count ... and the guy was rather boring.  He reminds me of the speakers we heard at PCC.

Which reminded me of my days at PCC and all the things I worked on while there.

The dramatic V.

Four years.  I spent four years working on perfecting a system which I have never used again.

It makes me laugh.

Although I am pretty good at the whole aesthetic distance thing.  My students still get thrown off by that.

Maybe I should start teaching drivers ed on the V.  Maybe with an accent.

That would be cool.
I do use the Dramatic V from time to time, but that's because I read aloud in Literature class...

good ol' aesthetic distance. you'd always whip that one out faster than the rest of us. and you used it so well...with commitment. fond memories.

i have had an odd moment or two since college when i wished someone ELSE knew the dramatic V. that's always alarming.

and i always find a good character to use is the one where you loop your thumbs through invisible suspenders and talk like a hick. ahh, that's a great one.

I"m sure it would make teaching the same material over and over a little more interesting. And the accent needs to be challenging. No straight British for you, mister.

ha! ha! That's a funny mind picture.

The Dramatic V actually appeared in BJU's speech text which was written before PCC's, but I'm not sure who really "invented" it.

I was just thinking about ye olde dramatic V a few days ago. No idea why. I never studied it. Probably heard all about it from all ye speechies. Maybe I was reminded of it while teaching the alphabet to Japanese kids. "and here, kids, is the DRAMATIC 'V'!" Now they need to expand it to all the other 25 letters. But the dramatic S would be killer.
